Biography


     
   Growing up on the West Island of Montreal, I remember liking to draw as soon as I could hold a pencil. 

   Despite a reputation as a budding artist, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology with honours from McGill University. I spent time working in the Gaspé Peninsula and in the eastern part of the Northwest Territories of Canada in what is now Nunavut. 

   Choosing between a Master’s degree in science and a more creative path, I followed my heart to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Drawing and Painting at Concordia University. The big question: “Why would you switch from science to art?"

   Art and science are two different sides of the same coin. Each began as an investigation of the universe, with science being interested mainly in how nature worked and art in how it looked. I feel that any serious interest in either one requires some understanding of both.

   My career began after the first academic year. It was the initial step of a journey spanning almost forty years in the animation industry. I have since lived and worked in cities across the country. As well as directing, supervising and animating at many of the major studios, I have taught drawing and animation at the Vancouver Film School where I ran the classical animation department as Program Director and Head Instructor.
    
   I am presently working as an animation supervisor and storyboard artist. I enjoy mentoring and interacting with other artists and am in the process of developing a series of courses on the fundamentals of drawing.
